Program Description
Code 312 - 60 Credits
The Associate Degree in Science is designed for students to meet general and specific requirements of transfer programs in STEM-related fields at four-year institutions. This degree fulfills the Bruin Standard general education core and applied core requirements, as well as the requirements of the Michigan Transfer Agreement. This degree is intended to support articulated transfer agreements, Guided Pathways, and individualized transfer pathways to meet students’ educational and career goals.
Requirements for the Degree
- A minimum of sixty (60) credit hours earned, excluding courses with numbers less than 100, and .
- A cumulative grade point average at KCC of at least 2.0.
- A minimum of fifteen (15) credit hours must be completed at Kellogg Community College.
- A maximum of 75% of the credit hours required for a degree may be documented and transferred to KCC.
- All Students who obtain an Associate degree or an Associate of Applied Science degree must complete the course with a grade of a C or higher. This degree requirement can also be achieved by earning a degree from an accredited institution or transferring 24 or more credits from another accredited institution applicable to their degree. Service-Learning Requirement
Students who obtain an Associate degree or an Associate of Applied Science degree will be required to complete a service-learning experience. The final grade in the course must qualify for academic credit in order to receive the service-learning endorsement. Please contact an Academic Advisor for courses that offer a service-learning experience, or search in the class schedules.
Michigan Transfer Agreement and Bruin Standard Requirement
Students earning the Associate in Science degree must meet the requirements of the Michigan Transfer Agreement (MTA) and the Bruin Standard (General Education) by selecting courses from the lists below. Students must complete a minimum of 20 total credit hours from the Mathematics and Science disciplines.

Program Learning Outcomes
- Communication: Students will demonstrate effective interpersonal skills evidenced by engaging in critical reading and listening, and by producing coherent written and oral work appropriate to audience and task.
- Critical Thinking/Analytical Reasoning/Creativity: Students will have the ability to analyze and evaluate information or evidence to form inferences, identify general theories, draw conclusions, make decisions, and solve problems from a variety of perspectives.
- Cultural/Social Awareness: Students will develop awareness and understanding of cultural and social diversity, examine historical and contemporary cultural traits impacting their civil society at the local, national and global level and recognize how the diversity of individuals and/or groups impacts social, economic, and/or political power.
- Engagement/Service Learning: Students will understand the interactions between members of a community and the social and political institutions that serve that community. Students will analyze their ability to effect change through social and civic responsibilities and enhance their learning by applying course content through service experience in the community.
- Information Literacy: Students will demonstrate the ability to locate, organize, store, retrieve, evaluate, synthesize, annotate, and document information from print, electronic, and other sources in preparation for solving problems, making informed decisions and preparing the written/oral communication necessary for academic and career success.
- Scientific Reasoning: Students will demonstrate an understanding of the scientific method and scientific inquiry through their ability to apply scientific processes, procedures, data, and/or evidence to evaluate, analyze, solve problems and, draw valid conclusions.
