SCIE 290 - Explorations in Integrated Science 4 CR A lecture and laboratory course that integrates life sciences and earth sciences. Students will gain a core understanding of the nature of scientific ideas and learn to solve problems related to the natural world. A variety of teaching methods are used to support students through content aligned with the NGSS, using scientific and engineering practices to explain core ideas about natural phenomena on Earth. [48-32-80]
Requisites: Next Gen ACCUPLACER® Reading score of 244, or TSRE 55 with a grade of C. Course Learning Outcomes:
- Apply scientific concepts, laws, and principles to model and explain biological phenomena and solid-earth processes.
- Conduct scientific experiments to explore aspects of science, such as asking questions, making observations, analyzing and interpreting data, and communicating scientific results.
- Interpret various representations across biology, geography, and geology and their systems using models, graphs, and basic algebra in the scientific context.
- Demonstrate a conceptual understanding of core concepts and principles in foundational biology and earth science (preparation for teaching in accord with Next Generation Science Standards and Michigan Test for Teacher Certification [MTTC] science objectives).
