Industrial Pipefitting Certificate

Program Description

Code 153 - 25 Credits

High-pressure and low-pressure piping systems are used in manufacturing, in the generation of electricity, and in the heating and cooling of buildings. Many of these systems are regulated by automatic controls, which may be accessed remotely. The Industrial Pipefitting core curriculum at Kellogg Community College prepares students to install, maintain, and repair these systems. Students may pursue either a Certificate or an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Industrial Pipefitting. To earn the certificate, students must complete twenty-five (25) credits in the Industrial Pipefitting core curriculum.

  • Oxyfuel Cutting
  • Ladders and Scaffolds
  • Motorized Equipment & Excavations
  • Piping System Fundamentals and Testing Piping Systems & Equipment
  • Drawing & Detail Sheets and Advanced Blueprint Reading
  • Basic & Advanced Pipefitting Trade Math
  • Identifying, Installing, & Maintaining Valves
  • Basic & Advanced Threaded, Socket-Weld, & Butt-Weld Pipe Fabrication
  • Basic Rigging & Rigging Practices
  • Standards and Specifications
  • Field Routing and Vessel Trim
  • Aboveground & Underground Pipe Installation
  • Pipe Hangers and Supports
  • Testing Piping Systems and Equipment
  • Stress Relieving and Aligning
  • Special Piping and In-Line Specialties
  • Hot Taps
  • Fundamentals of Crew Leadership

Modular Format

Industrial Trades curricula are offered in a non-traditional, modular format. Module descriptions are not listed in the catalog. Industrial Trades Orientation

All students interested in taking Industrial Trades modules must complete one or more core curriculum orientations. The orientation is a core curriculum prerequisite. Students will not be able to register for modules until the orientation is completed.
