The Graphic Design program at Kellogg Community College is designed for individuals who would like to pursue a career in graphic or digital design, as well as those already working in the industry who need to upgrade their skills for new responsibilities or career growth. The program’s curriculum includes both classroom and hands-on learning experiences to prepare the student for success in small or large businesses. Upon successful completion of the program, students earn an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Graphic Design.
Students will be prepared to provide creative solutions to visual communications by emphasizing composition and layout while participating in computer graphics training and relevant field experience allowing them to establish a strong, diversified portfolio. Students are encouraged to develop their conceptual and design abilities while working in a modern graphic design environment that includes a fully equipped graphic design computer lab. By taking advantage of course offerings in graphic design, students ready themselves for entry-level positions at advertising agencies, publishing corporations, print shops, and design departments in business and industry.
The Graphic Design program emphasizes state-of-the-art knowledge and skills needed to prepare students for a challenging and exciting career in this fast-paced, high-tech, rapidly growing industry.
Service-Learning Requirement
Students who obtain an Associate degree or an Associate of Applied Science degree will be required to complete a service-learning experience. The final grade in the course must qualify for academic credit in order to receive the service-learning endorsement. Please contact an Academic Advisor for courses that offer a service-learning experience, or search in the class schedules.
Prerequisite Requirements
Strong reading skills and some background in mathematics are recommended prior to attempting courses in the Graphic Design program.
