Lab Fee

Course Learning Outcomes:
  1. Describe thermal expansion in piping systems, how to accommodate the imposed stress, methods of minimizing stress in pipe welds, how to avoid stress in rotating equipment connections, methods for stress relieving welds, and how to identify areas in need of stress-relieving.
  2. Describe the types and operation of various in-line specialties, and the problems and corrective actions associated with steam traps.
  3. Describe how to assemble copper pipe and tubing via flared and compression joints, by soldering and brazing, explain how to lay out bends in pipe and tubing, how to remove, install, and maintain glass-lined piping systems, and how to assemble Lokring joints.
  4. Explain hot tapping and its safety precautions, procedures, tools, and materials.
  5. Explain the types, purposes, uses, applications, precautions, and installation and removal procedures associated with gaskets, packing, and o-rings.
  6. Describe the current issues observed in industrial organizational structures, how to incorporate leadership skills into work habits, and the safety responsibilities of a crew leader.
