BUAD 275 - Principles of Retail Management 3 CR An introductory course analyzing retail management in the areas of managing supply chains, legal and ethical behaviors, marketing selection and retail location analysis, financial reporting, merchandising and pricing, advertising, and promotion, customer service and retail selling, and store layout and design. Emphasis is placed upon managing the daily operations of the retail industry. Cases and current events related to business practices are utilized.
Requisites: (1) Next Gen ACCUPLACER® reading score of 244, or at least a grade of C in TSRE 55 (AND) (2) Next Gen ACCUPLACER® arithmetic score of at least 250, or Next Gen ACCUPLACER® quantitative reason score of at least 237, or MATH 102 , MATH 105 , MATH 111 , MATH 112 , MATH 115 , MATH 125 , MATH 130 , MATH 132 , MATH 140 , MATH 141 , MATH 142 , MATH 241 , and MATH 242 with at least a grade of C. Course Learning Outcomes:
- Describe the flow of goods and services in a retail environment (e.g., inventory control, supply chain, and risk management).
- Evaluate the impact of laws and regulations pertaining to the role and responsibilities of a retail manager.
- Analyze how logistics and supply chain management achieve a sustainable competitive advantage.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of merchandising decisions in the retail industry.
- Describe how technology (e.g., customer databases, integrated systems, and buying and sales forecasting systems) is used to support retail businesses.
