INHR 12101 - Relays and Contactors

0.25 CR
Relays and contactors are devices that perform switching functions. Unlike manually operated switches, they use an electric circuit to energize a magnetic field, which pulls on an armature, closing and opening the switch contacts. Because of this, they are well suited for remote operation. A good technician must understand how these devices work. This module focuses on their use in the HVAC-R environment.

Course Learning Outcomes:
  1. Demonstrate safe and proper use of electrical tools and equipment.
  2. Demonstrate knowledge of basic electrical theory.
  3. Demonstrate knowledge of electrical circuits.
  4. Demonstrate an understanding of electrical communication using schematic and pictorial drawings.
  5. Demonstrate an understanding of HVAC-R electrical controls.
  6. Demonstrate electrical troubleshooting strategies and techniques on HVAC-R equipment.
