INHR 12081 - Transformers

Electrical transformers use the principals of induction to either step up or step-down voltages to the desired or more usable levels. Whether working on residential or commercial equipment, it is important for the HVAC-R technician to understand the types, sizes, and reasons that the industry uses different electrical transformers. This module teaches the student about these different transformers and how to differentiate them. Students will learn to calculate transformer ratings.

  1. Demonstrate safe and proper use of electrical tools and equipment.
  2. Demonstrate knowledge of basic electrical theory.
  3. Demonstrate knowledge of electrical circuits.
  4. Demonstrate an understanding of electrical communication using schematic and pictorial drawings. 
  5. Demonstrate an understanding of HVAC-R electrical controls.
  6. Demonstrate electrical troubleshooting strategies and techniques on HVAC-R equipment.
