INHR 60011 - System Startup and Shutdown

In this module, the HVAC student will learn the procedures for the startup and shutdown of hot water steam heating systems, chilled water systems, and forced air distribution systems. Emphasis is on startup after initial equipment installation or after an extended period of shutdown. Procedures to prepare these systems for extended periods of the shutdown are also included.

Course Learning Outcomes:
  1. Describe the proper procedure for start-up, shutdown, and seasonal storage for HVAC-R systems.
  2. Explain the procedure for testing, removing, adding, or removing oil from HVAC-R systems.
  3. Describe the process of cleaning a shell and tube heat exchanger.
  4. Demonstrate skills to gather data, design systems, make drawings, estimate HVAC-R needs, and select equipment.
  5. Identify and describe many different heat exchange styles and how they work.
  6. Identify and describe several different alternative heating and cooling systems.
