Variable Frequency Drives (also referred to as Variable Speed or AC Drives) have been replacing many applications that DC motors are used for as technology progresses. In this module, the student will learn the fundamentals of how a typical variable frequency drive operates.

Course Learning Outcomes:

Select, analyze, install, and use alternating current motors, motor starters, and control circuits.
Apply industry-specific terminology to explain or discuss motor operations with industry professionals.
Demonstrate safe working conditions in accordance with state and federal regulations.
Distinguish the basic components which comprise electric motor control.
Design and wire basic full voltage reversing and non-reversing combination starters.
Explain the basic control schematics of common motor control circuits.
