ECE 217 - School-Age Learning Environments 3 CR This course introduces students to designing exciting, secure, and developmentally appropriate school-age programs for children ages 5-12. Students explore the physical, social, cognitive, and emotional development of school-age children. Students gain skills in selecting equipment and individual and group management techniques. This course is based on NAEYC standards of child development practices.
Requisites: Next Gen ACCUPLACER® reading score of 244, or at least a grade of C in TSRE 55 or ENGL 151 . Course Learning Outcomes:
- Describe developmental characteristics of a school-age child.
- Evaluate the temporal, interpersonal, and physical environment of a school-age program.
- Identify developmentally appropriate practices and programming for school-age children, including indoor and outdoor environments.
- Devise developmentally appropriate strategies to support positive guidance and conflict resolution with school-age children.
- Examine professional guidelines and resources that support school-age programs and explore relationships that can be built with various stakeholders.
