CET 250 - Security+ 3 CR This course prepares the student for the CompTIA Security+ certification examination. Students will learn about industry-wide security topics including communication security, infrastructure security, cryptography, access control, authentication, external attack, and operational and organization security. Other topics included in this course are protocols used in Linux, UNIX, and Windows 2000, in addition to the TCP/IP suite component protocols and Ethernet operations. Students will gain knowledge in capturing, analyzing, and generating IP traffic; how to exploit protocol weaknesses; and examine defensive solutions. Packet filtering, password policies, and file integrity checking are also covered. [24-40-64] Lab Fee
Requisites: Select 1 course from CET 123 , CET 260 , or CET 276 . Course Learning Outcomes:
- The student will be able to explain the concepts of confidentiality, availability, and integrity (CIA) in the context of Information Assurance.
- The student will be able to explain key networking protocols and their hierarchical relationship in the context of a conceptual model such as the OSI.
- The student will be able to identify physical controls that can be implemented across an organization to reduce information and systems security risk.
- The student will be able to identify and mitigate the vulnerability.
