CHEM 201 - Organic Chemistry 1 4 CR This course provides a comprehensive study of the physical and chemical properties of aliphatic, aromatic, and cyclic compounds, including functional groups. Emphasis is placed upon mechanisms and theory of reactions of the basic classes of organic compounds. The course includes lecture and laboratory experiences. [48-48-96] Lab Fee

- Carry out scientific experiments, record and analyze the data in well-written laboratory reports.
- Analyze the atomic structures of elements.
- Interpret acid and base trends.
- Analyze functional groups, names, functions, and reactions, such as alkanes, alkenes, alkynes both linear and cyclic, alkyl halides, alcohols, ethers, and epoxides.
- Recognize and interpret stereogenic centers.
